About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Adult Protective Services Specialist to join our team at Family and Children's Services Niagara. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with Adult Protective Services clients to enhance their ability to live successfully and independently in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adult Protective Services Support
    • Provide support, mentoring, and coaching to Adult Protective Services clients to enhance their skills and abilities.
    • Develop and implement individualized life skills coaching plans to help clients achieve their goals.
    • Act as a bridge between clients and community resources, including developmental disabilities services providers.
    • Advocate on behalf of clients to negotiate the acquisition of needed services.
    • Collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure a community approach to assisting Adult Protective Services clients.
  • Team Building
    • Participate in regular supervision and team meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
    • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Support the team and work collaboratively to ensure department and agency caseload needs are met.
  • Other Related Activities
    • Assume primary responsibility for coordinating client special events and activities.
    • Develop and implement crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies to support clients.
    • Identify and promote the use of community resources to assist clients.
    • Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, and administrative practices.
Qualifications
  • Developmental Services Worker Diploma or related degree/diploma preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years working with clients with developmental disabilities.
  • Solid knowledge of developmental disabilities and associated support communities.
  • Solid knowledge of legislation, regulations, and standards governing adult protective services.
  • Excellent crisis intervention skills.
  • Valid G Driver's License and access to a reliable motor vehicle with appropriate liability insurance.
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Good ability to use MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, etc).
  • Good written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think clearly with attention to detail.
  • Excellent understanding and commitment to quality service and best practice.
  • Solid ability to analyze information, problem-solve, and make good decisions/recommendations.
  • Self-directed with a solid ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Good written documentation skills that are clear, thorough, concise, accurate, and timely.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to change.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and personal information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to work with and meet timelines.
  • Ability to teach clients life skills.
  • Ability to communicate in French or another language is an asset.
