Position Overview:
The Adult Support Services Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting clients within the Adult Protective Services framework, empowering them to achieve independence and success in their daily lives. This position reports directly to the Family Services Program Lead and is based in Welland, ON.

Key Responsibilities:
Client Support and Development
  • Deliver personalized mentoring and guidance to clients of Adult Protective Services, enhancing their life skills.
  • Provide tailored life skills coaching, covering essential areas such as household management, nutrition, personal hygiene, budgeting, and social engagement.
  • Facilitate connections between clients and community resources, including developmental disability service providers.
  • Advocate for clients to secure necessary services and support, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to foster a community-oriented approach to client support.
  • Implement prescribed individual or group activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients according to agency policies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client progress and administrative tasks.
  • Ensure proper management and secure storage of client files throughout the duration of their cases.

Team Collaboration:
  • Engage actively in regular supervision and team meetings to enhance service delivery.
  • Contribute to training sessions and collaborative discussions to meet departmental goals.
  • Support team members in managing caseloads and providing coverage as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate special events for clients, promoting engagement and community involvement.
  • Exhibit strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills when necessary.
  • Identify and promote community resources that can benefit clients.
  • Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Preferred: Diploma in Developmental Services or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of the support community for developmentally disabled adults.
  • Knowledge of legislation and standards governing adult protective services.
  • Excellent crisis management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, fostering effective interactions with colleagues.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Experience in teaching life skills to clients.
  • Proficiency in French or another language is an asset.

Working Conditions:
  • Primarily office-based work with periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional travel to various sites may be required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • May involve exposure to challenging environments and situations.
