Neonatal Nurse Specialist

Fraser Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team. As a Registered Nurse in the NICU, you will provide high-quality patient care to newborns and their families, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and identify risk factors in newborns on admission and at regular intervals.
- Provide primary care providers, specialists, and members of the interdisciplinary team with assessment data, outcomes, and initiate discussions to determine optimal care planning for newborns.
- Participate in high-risk deliveries, implementing the principles of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Provide direct nursing care to newborns based on nursing knowledge and in compliance with established standards and hospital guidelines.
- Collaborate with primary care providers and specialists in planning and evaluating the care provided.
- Maintain complete and accurate computerized and paper records.
- Promote Family-Centered Care and Best Practice principles.
- Participate in quality improvement and research activities.
Education and Experience:
Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). One (1) year's recent experience in a neonatal tertiary unit and completion of a post-basic Neonatal Nursing Program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current Basic Rescuer (Level C) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) Certificates.

- Ability to apply newborn theory and expertise in the nursing care of neonates.
- Ability to recognize acuity changes and make appropriate clinical decisions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to teach families.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including a computer.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment.
- Ability to deal with and promote change.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
