About the Role

The Registered Nurse is a key member of our interdisciplinary team, responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to patients and families on our acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit and in the MHEAZ of the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and families to identify their mental health needs and develop individualized care plans
  • Provide group therapies and education to patients and families
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate discharge planning and ensure a smooth transition of care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers

Requirements

  • Current certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • BScN preferred
  • CPMHN(C) is an asset
  • Minimum of 1 year Mental Health Nursing experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in psychiatric and medical nursing diagnosis, assessment, intervention, and evaluation processes
  • Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act/Mental Health Reform
  • Ability to articulate clearly the philosophy of client-centered care, recovery, trauma-informed, and strength-based strategies
  • Excellent understanding of psychotropic medication and counselling techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team environment
