About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Community Engagement Specialist to join our team at the Macaulay Child Development Centre. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and delivering community programs that promote parenting skills and confidence among Afro-Caribbean fathers and father figures.
Job Summary
The Community Engagement Specialist will work collaboratively with community partners to develop and strengthen community engagement strategies. This includes working with stakeholders to clarify goals, objectives, outcomes, and activities of our program, More Than A Haircut (MTAH). The successful candidate will also provide individualized supports to program participants, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports as required.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver MTAH programs using a strength-based, anti-oppression approach;
- Work actively with community partners to develop and strengthen community engagement;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify goals, objectives, outcomes, and activities of MTAH;
- Provide individualized supports to program participants;
- Maintain accurate and complete program statistics and records;
- Prepare reports as required;
- Attend agency staff meetings and training, team meetings, and special events;
- Maintain optimal attendance at work;
- Mentor or supervise students and volunteers;
- Perform other tasks as delegated or assigned;
- Work in compliance with all applicable regulations and laws;
- Comply with all Macaulay policies, practices, and quality standards;
- Contribute to the development of high-performing teams.
Qualifications
- University degree in a related field, such as social work;
- Member in good standing with professional college (if applicable);
- Five years' experience providing parent support and/or community development;
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals and groups and extensive knowledge of community resources;
- Knowledge, understanding, and lived experience of issues impacting parenting among Afro-Caribbean fathers;
- Experience developing programs that address factors affecting parenting in the context of the wider community and society;
- Strong background in group facilitation;
- Outstanding problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills;
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and listening skills;
- Computer literacy required, together with proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite;
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with families, colleagues, and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and identities;
- Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language an asset;
- Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize;
- Strong understanding of teamwork and independent practice with the ability to work effectively to contribute to high-performing teams;
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required;
- Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.
Salary
The hourly rate for this position is $32-$40 per hour. Based on a 12-hour workweek, the annual salary would be approximately $67,296-$83,696.
