Community Support Professional for Deafblind Individuals

What You'll DoYou will work as a Specialist, Intervenor, providing one-on-one service and support to individuals who are Deafblind in their homes or communities. Your duties will include facilitating access to information, communicating with the individual and their environment, and acting as a sighted guide.
- Provide individualized support to clients, helping them navigate their surroundings and engage with their community.
- Facilitate communication between clients and their environment, using various methods such as Two-Hand Manual and American Sign Language.
- Collaborate with clients to determine their level of support and develop personalized plans to meet their needs.
- Empower clients to participate in activities that promote social connection, learning, and personal growth.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Knowledge of theories and principles of intervention, as well as an understanding of Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and common associated health-related concerns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
- A diploma or degree in the human services field, or related experience working with Deafblind individuals.
- The ability to learn and practice alternative formats of communication, including Two-Hand Manual and Braille.
- Experience working with diverse populations and adaptability to changing situations.
