Job Title: Project Controls Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Controls Specialist to join our Ontario Region team in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. As a Project Controls Specialist, you will be responsible for providing project controls support to our Business Groups, including scheduling, cost control, change management, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage project controls staff assigned to projects
  • Implement project control aspects of projects, including scheduling, cost control, change management, and risk management
  • Take a hands-on approach to project controls functions, depending on project complexity and staff assigned
  • Work closely with Project Managers on major project functions, with a focus on managing and providing support on project controls functions
  • Engage with engineering discipline leads to support updating design deliverable progress and schedule updates
  • Analyze data and develop recommendations on economic, financial, and other implications of projects
  • Review budgets and schedules with Project Managers, Design Managers, and Discipline Leads, identifying gaps and providing solutions to achieve scope, budget, and schedule requirements
  • Make recommendations on change notices in compliance with best practice change management techniques
  • Work effectively with the finance department to ensure project budgets and invoices are accurate
  • Coordinate the preparation of capital cost estimates, verifying quantity estimates prepared by each discipline
  • Implement coaching or mentoring on best practice project controls processes within the project team or with other project controls staff
  • Provide guidance to junior technical staff and check their work for accuracy and conformance with quality and quantity standards

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma from a recognized college or university with a minimum of ten years of broad and extensive technical, administrative, and project experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of working experience within project controls within an engineering design environment
  • Experience in providing project controls/services for design delivery for large, multi-discipline projects
  • Demonstrated experience working and/or managing project controls functions, including scheduling methods, cost control processes, risk management procedures, and project metrics
  • High level of proficiency and experience with cost analysis and planning scheduling tools
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty, changing priorities, and team building, staff management, and mentoring skills
  • PMP, PMI, or similar qualifications is considered an asset
