Senior Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to join our Grocery Pick Hardware Team at Ocado Logistics. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in designing and developing advanced robots for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop structural and motion assemblies, including end effectors, robot supports, and dresspacks.
  • Validate designs through bench tests, analysis, and production trials.
  • Create assembly drawings in SolidWorks and manage bill of materials through our PLM system.
  • Develop accurate and concise assembly instructions and SOPs for installation, maintenance, and manufacturing teams.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop technologies for production.
  • Perform design reviews and promote best practices for development.
  • Identify improvements, engineering standards, and procedures to ensure high-quality products.
  • Elevate team skills through technical mentorship and foster a culture of mentorship.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer in a related industry.
  • Ability to iterate quickly and demonstrate new concepts through rapid prototypes.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to approach problems from first principles.
  • Experience modeling and creating part drawings for sheet metal parts, weldments, precision machined components, castings, and injection molded components.
  • Experience selecting, sizing, and designing for various actuator types, transmissions, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and other major CAD packages, including FEA for a wide range of cases and materials.
  • Capable of leading small groups to ensure project deliverables are completed on time.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and mechanical forensic investigation.
  • Experience designing systems that have reached production at scale, considering all relevant stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding junior and intermediate-level engineers and interns.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 10% of the time.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Applicable skills in end effector design, industrial automation, or robotic work cells.
  • Pneumatic system experience, including valving and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of safety systems for industrial machinery.
  • Experience with analog electrical equipment, automated test fixture creation, and sensor selection.
  • Understanding of thermal calculations and conducting thermal analyses.
