Harm Reduction Services Team Lead

AVI Health & Community Services is a multi-disciplinary community-based organization providing HIV, hepatitis C, and harm reduction services across Vancouver Island. We strive to create meaningful connections between clients and staff, peers, staff members, organizations, communities, and funders to promote health, dignity, and well-being.

The Harm Reduction Services Team Lead will provide supervision and support to the HOPS and DOPES Teams. This position will support staff while also providing low-barrier harm reduction supports and services for marginalized individuals and communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Supervise and support staff to deliver harm reduction-based services.
  2. Develop and facilitate harm reduction-based educational programming.
  3. Engage with service users in a collaborative, person-centered approach grounded in harm reduction.
  4. Monitor and support people who are using substances, assessing for overdose symptoms and responding with rescue breathing and naloxone when necessary.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in health or social services or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years' relevant work experience providing harm reduction-based supports.
  • Supervisory experience in a front-line social service agency working with individuals who use substances.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with 'normal' Driver status, free of restrictions and holds.
  • First Aid training and experience responding to critical incidents, including overdose.
  • Experience de-escalating crisis and managing hostile interactions, utilizing non-violent communication, and diffusing techniques.
  • Able to respectfully engage and support Indigenous relationships, with a trauma-informed and decolonial lens.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with a diverse range of clientele, including individuals who are actively using substances and living with significant health challenges.
