Job Summary

We are seeking a Support Worker to join our Harm Reduction Program at AVI Health and Community Services. As a Support Worker, you will work collaboratively with our team to provide support and services to individuals who use substances.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work with the Harm Reduction Team to identify potential participants and provide information on accessing safer drug alternatives.
  2. Distribute harm reduction supplies and provide training on their use.
  3. Monitor and support individuals using substances, assessing for overdose symptoms and responding accordingly.
  4. Maintain program spaces by following protocols related to violence prevention and critical incidents.
  5. Provide referrals for other health and social services.
  6. Establish and maintain rapport with participants, observing changes in their health and well-being.
  7. Liaise between participants, systems navigators, nurses, and physicians to facilitate communication.
  8. Develop safety plans with individuals at increased risk of overdose.
Requirements
  • Minimum two years' experience working in harm reduction settings.
  • Lived or observed experience with criminalized drug use and related health and social barriers is preferred.
  • Experience responding to critical incidents and overdose, including administration of naloxone.
  • Knowledge of local drug trends and ability to relate to program participants.
  • Direct service delivery experience in community social services, with a demonstrated understanding of community-based programs and provincial support services systems.
  • Ability to build respectful relationships and communicate effectively.
Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this position is $65,000-$75,000 CAD, depending on experience, with opportunities for growth and professional development. Benefits include pension plan contributions, paid time off, and additional perks as outlined below.
