AVI Health and Community Services is a multi-disciplinary community-based organization providing HIV, hepatitis C, and harm reduction services out of 5 locations across Vancouver Island. Our mission is to take evidence-based action to prevent infection, provide support, and reduce stigma for individuals living with HIV and hepatitis C, as well as those experiencing harm reduction needs.
**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a skilled CLCR Systems Navigator to join our team. The Systems Navigator will provide acute mobile crisis support and de-escalation services for individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use related crises. This role is responsible for assessment and acuity triage, team dispatch, and determining the level of risk. The Systems Navigator will work collaboratively with the CLCR team to provide client-centered, trauma-informed care.
**Key Responsibilities:***
* Manage the central call line for the CLCR team, including phone lines and text messages
* Assess and triage calls and text messages from the community, initiating Community Care Plans and resourcing community supports
* Develop support and safety plans for individuals in crisis, as well as for third-party callers
* Consult with community resources, family members, and peers as directed by the caller's needs
* Redirect callers to access pertinent resources, including 911 and crisis lines
* Engage in assessments and obtain necessary information to assist the CLCR team in responding to crisis calls
* Gather and share vital information, liaising between callers and the CLCR team
* Provide non-judgmental emotional telephone and text support and crisis intervention
* Utilize assessment and screening tools to determine urgency and involve the CLCR team or other emergency services
* Assess needs and risk of callers, referring to appropriate services and providing short-term follow-up during wait times
* Support behind-the-scenes systems, including communication with internal AVI programs, staff scheduling, payroll, and leave management
* Consult with community members and resources as appropriate to client care
* Quickly prioritize multiple competing tasks using a methodological approach to problem-solving, decision-making, and communication
**Requirements:**
* Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in mental health services, de-escalation, and crisis response
* Undergraduate degree in a mental health field (counseling, social work, psychiatric nursing)
* Crisis intervention skills, including situational awareness, mental health assessments, and suicide intervention
* Ability to respectfully engage and support Indigenous relationships with a trauma-informed and decolonial lens
* Demonstrated skills and experience in harm reduction and health promotion practices
* Demonstrated practice of social justice, cultural humility, and trauma-informed approaches to care
**Work Environment:**
This is a casual position working various shifts between 7:00 am and 1:00 am. The Systems Navigator will work from the AVI Victoria office and respond to crises throughout Victoria, including in people's homes, community centers, and outdoors.
