Senior Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at FortisBC. In this critical role, you will be responsible for enhancing our safety culture by coaching and mentoring leadership teams and employees.
About the RoleAs an Occupational and Health Business Partner, you will work closely with our Joint Health and Safety Committees and engage with Operations teams to develop and implement effective safety programs. Your expertise in safety management systems and compliance with regulatory standards will ensure that we maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Safety Program Development: Develop a deep understanding of our business unit structure, organizational values, corporate safety programs, and safety management system to guide the development of comprehensive safety initiatives.
- Leadership Support: Coach and mentor leadership teams and employees to enhance our safety culture and promote a positive work environment.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with our Joint Health and Safety Committees and engage with Operations teams to ensure effective communication and collaboration on safety-related matters.
- Safety Expertise: Provide subject matter expertise on health and safety-related matters, review, and update safety programs to ensure continued compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
- A bachelor's degree in environmental and occupational health and safety or a related field from a recognized accredited program.
- Four to seven years of recent experience in the environment, occupational health and safety field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A valid Canadian driver's license is required.
- Formal qualifications in safety investigations and root cause analysis and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or the ability to obtain one would be an asset.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year. This flexibility will allow you to balance your work and personal life while maintaining productivity and focus.
The estimated salary range for this position is between $47.85 and $59.39 hourly, based on the job requirements, location, and industry standards. As a valued member of our team, you can expect a competitive compensation package and opportunities for professional growth and development.
