Job Overview

AECOM seeks a highly experienced Senior Health and Safety Professional to lead the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures for a large, multi-disciplinary hydropower construction project in Canada.

About the Role

This senior-level position involves interacting daily with the project team, client/owner, and contractors' on-site teams, reporting directly to the Project Manager. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in health and safety management within large-scale construction or engineering projects, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Implement Comprehensive Health and Safety Management System: Design, develop, and implement a tailored health and safety management system that meets the project's specific needs, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  2. Risk Assessments and Site Inspections: Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective measures, promoting a safe working environment.
  3. Health and Safety Training Programs: Lead training programs for project staff and subcontractors to foster a culture of safety, emphasizing prevention and continuous improvement.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant health and safety laws, regulations, and industry standards, maintaining a proactive approach to risk management.
  5. Collaboration and Liaison: Collaborate closely with project management, engineering teams, and regulatory agencies to ensure seamless integration of safety considerations into project planning and execution.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety management systems, preferably in large-scale construction projects.
