Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team in Western Canada. As an integral part of our district management, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of employees and stakeholders on bridge and marine construction projects.

About the Role

This position requires a strong background in construction safety management, with a focus on bridge and marine projects or heavy civil and transportation projects. You will develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to project requirements.

You will conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks. Your role also involves leading investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents, and ensuring timely reporting in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

To succeed in this position, you must stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to bridge and marine construction. You will coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits, and provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to bridge and marine construction projects
  • Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks
  • Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents
  • Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
Requirements
  • Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on bridge and marine projects, or heavy civil and transportation projects
  • Professional certification in safety management (e.g., CSHM, CHST)
  • CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, and WorkSafe BC regulations and other relevant safety standards
