We are seeking a skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Royal Columbian Hospital. As a key member of our Medical Imaging department, you will be responsible for performing MRI examinations and providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities- Perform MRI examinations in accordance with established procedures, including completing requisitions and related paperwork, positioning patients, and explaining clinical procedures.
- Monitor patients during procedures and respond to any emergent situations, such as contrast media reactions.
- Conduct image studies using MRI equipment and departmental information systems, ensuring that patient identification and image collation meet departmental standards.
- Facilitate the workflow of designated work areas, including regulating inpatient examination time and arranging departmental and/or facility porters.
- Perform quality control duties, such as scheduling and performing equipment tests, and identifying malfunctioning equipment for repair.
- Participate in the departmental Continuous Quality Improvement/LEAN programs, using established monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks.
- Maintain designated work areas, including checking and cleaning equipment, setting up examination trays, and receiving and stocking supplies.
- Demonstrate procedures and usage of equipment to staff, including medical residents, technologists, and students, and participate in the orientation of new employees.
- Enter data into the radiology and hospital information systems as required, and respond to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding patient examinations and schedules.
- Determine workload measurements and compile workload statistical reports, as required, and make recommendations to the Director on how services may be improved.
- Ensure that the department meets Health and Safety rules, regulations, and practices, including Fire, Disaster, WHMIS, Smart Moves, and Infection Control.
- Participate in approved research and special projects in collaboration with the Supervisor and other health care professionals.
- Maintain equipment by monitoring its operation and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs as required.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements, and immediately report unsafe situations to the Supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
Certification with CAMRT (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is required, along with completion of Intravenous Therapy training course when required by site practice and one (1) year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) level is also required.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations, as well as evidence-based practice related to designated modality. They will also have demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment.
