Harm Reduction Services Team Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Harm Reduction Services Team Lead to join our team at AVI Health and Community Services. As a key member of our team, you will provide supervision and support to our HOPS and DOPES Teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality harm reduction-based services to individuals and communities in need.
Key Responsibilities- Supervision and Support: Provide daily check-ins and 1:1 supervision to staff, ensuring they have the necessary tools and resources to deliver exceptional services.
- Team Management: Supervise the HOPS and DOPES Teams, acting as a liaison between staff, managers, and community resources to communicate and manage client concerns and issues related to operations.
- Staffing and Scheduling: Arrange staffing coverage, contact casual staff members to call-out shifts, and confirm staffing according to seniority and make necessary scheduling adjustments.
- Break Coverage and Support: Provide break coverage and coverage when minimum staffing is not met.
- Paperwork and Reporting: Assist with paperwork, including the completion of statistics, leave forms, weekly narrative, and reporting, as required.
- Program Development and Evaluation: Engage in planning, evaluation, and program development as directed.
- Harm Reduction Education and Training: Develop and facilitate harm reduction-based educational programming, including overdose prevention and peer skill development.
- Rapport and Support Services: Develop rapport and support services with service users, staff, and Resident Responders.
- Documentation and Reporting: Contribute to accurate documentation, including team logs, client files, and Critical Incident Reports.
- Training and Support: Provide on-the-spot and group-based training in overdose response and education on substances and safer use practices.
- Debriefing and Support: Provide on-the-spot debriefing supports and care for staff and service users.
- Crisis Response and Support: Use brief assessment, active listening, and crisis response skills to support staff and service users.
- Substance Use Support:
- Monitor and support people who are using substances, assessing for overdose symptoms and responding with rescue breathing and naloxone when necessary.
- Community Engagement: Engage with service users in a collaborative, person-centered approach grounded in harm reduction.
- Safety and Security: Maintain the safety of all program spaces by following protocols related to violence prevention and critical incidents, including the ability to use communication devices.
- Safety Planning: Identify and develop safety plans with people who are using substances who are at increased risk of overdose.
- Education: Diploma in health or social services (Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Support Worker, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Minimum of three years' relevant work experience providing harm reduction-based supports, with supervisory experience in a front-line social service agency working with folks who use substances.
- Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with a diverse range of clientele, including individuals who are actively using substances and living with significant health challenges. Demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge in the areas of safer drug use, OAT, safer sex, sex work, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, mental health, etc.
- Commitment to Harm Reduction: Demonstrated understanding and commitment to harm reduction principles and practices.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to work effectively with coworkers, clients, community, and other service providers.
