Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Residential Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our residential program, you will provide critical support and assistance to residents, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in shift changeovers and ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
  • Respond to crisis calls and provide emergency support to residents.
  • Conduct house orientations for new residents and provide essential information about our program.
  • Maintain accurate records of shift activities, incidents, and resident interactions.
  • Collaborate with caseworkers to ensure the smooth functioning of our residential program.
  • Assist with food preparation and meal planning.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to residents experiencing abuse or violence.
  • Mediate conflicts and ensure the safety of residents and staff.
  • Conduct security checks and maintain the integrity of our residential program.
  • Stay up-to-date with our program's policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of our residential facilities.
Qualifications and Education
  • A certificate, diploma, or degree in social services or a related field.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR level C and FOODSAFE Level 1 certificates.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with victims of domestic violence.
  • Experience in frontline work in a social service setting.
  • Experience in assisting professionals to intervene safely with domestic violence.
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Relevant understanding of the situation of women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships and their children.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortable using computer software and database programs.
  • Valid BC driver's license and a clean driver's abstract.
  • Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Nonviolent conflict intervention training.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
Preferred Skills and Capabilities
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and maintain confidentiality.
  • Good conflict resolution skills.
