Role Overview

This is a casual, part-time position with The Children's Aid Society of the District of Thunder Bay. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Supportive Family Facilitator to join our team.

About the Role

As a Supportive Family Facilitator, you will work collaboratively with children, youth, and families to provide support and guidance in their time of need. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate visits between children and their parents, as well as providing respite to caregivers by supervising children in and out of the home, transporting them to appointments and activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitating family time: You will work closely with children, youth, and their families to create a safe and supportive environment for interactions.
  • Providing support to children and youth in care: As a Supportive Family Facilitator, you will offer respite to caregivers by supervising children both in and out of the home, as well as transporting them to appointments and activities.
  • Exceptional circumstances: In situations where no alternate arrangements can be made, you may be approved to work with a child and/or family to assist in providing supports that help strengthen the family system.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of child development, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. You will also need to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding the principles of privacy.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Maintain a strong sense of professional judgement, tact, ethics, sensitivity, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Work cooperatively and productively with other members of a multidisciplinary team to achieve common goals.
  • Effectively manage interpersonal conflict.
  • Adapt to changes and demonstrate flexibility to meet the demands of work assignments.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with the Society's health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.
  • Requirements for maintaining confidentiality and the principles of privacy.
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop therapeutic relationships.
  • Case noting, communication skills.
  • The importance of cultural diversity in child rearing practices, parenting, and family resources.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques, behavior management techniques.
  • Problem solving, critical thinking, multitasking.
  • Knowledge of the stages, milestones, and prerequisites of development of children from birth through young adulthood.
  • Knowledge of the impact of oppression, anti-Black racism, and colonization on the lives of service users, with particular attention to identity formation and systemic issues.

Salary and Benefits

We are offering a competitive salary range of $20-$24.50 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. This position is classified as casual, part-time employment, with no guarantee of hours but opportunities to work up to 40 hours per week. $22.00 - $23.75 per hour depending on the candidate's experience.
