We are seeking an experienced Government Relations Manager to join our team at Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. in St. Albert, Alberta.

About the Role

This is a hybrid-eligible position involving strategic engagement and advocacy with federal, provincial, and municipal governments, working closely with our Director, Indigenous & Stakeholder Relations and Sustainability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of government relations, community engagement, and industry-specific issues.

The successful candidate will lead the planning and implementation of government relations strategies in support of cross-functional and enterprise-wide objectives. This includes leading strategic engagement and advocacy with governments, collaborating with internal business areas and subject matter experts to identify and respond to government relations matters.

The Government Relations Manager will also lead the Government & Community Relations business function, coordinating local community relations activities and supporting Al-Pac's community engagement efforts. They will work closely with other business areas and have two direct reports, managing service contracts as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Government & Community Relations business function in accordance with Al-Pac policies, processes, and best practices.
  • Inspire and motivate team members to achieve objectives, fostering a culture of health, safety, and well-being.
  • Establish clear work plans, annual goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and performance and development plans for direct reports.
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure efficient workflow, timely task completion, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the Government & Community Relations business function.
Requirements

We are looking for a seasoned professional with:

  • A post-secondary degree in Political Science, Business, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in a corporate setting, preferably in the forestry or natural resource development sectors.
  • Established networks and relationships with government representatives.
  • Strong knowledge of regulation, ethics, and standards related to lobbying and other government relations activities.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders and the public with professionalism, tact, discretion, good judgment, and trust.
What We Offer

Our company offers a competitive salary range of $110,000 - $140,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a comprehensive pension plan, and opportunities for growth and professional development.
