The Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation
The Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation (TLCI) is a hub for academic support and innovation at Olds College. Our team of experts provides a range of services, including accessibility support, learning commons, educational development, and more.
The Opportunity: Learning Coach, Intercultural and English Language Specialist
Purpose of Position:
The Learning Coach, Intercultural and English Language Specialist will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of international and English as an additional language learners at Olds College. This position requires a collaborative and empathetic individual with a strong understanding of intercultural communication and EAL pedagogy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze data on student learning needs to inform academic coaching and support strategies.
- Provide individualized academic coaching to students, including writing and presentation skills support.
- Design and facilitate group sessions to support academic success, including English language skills bridging.
- Develop close working relationships with faculty, staff, and the TLCI team to enhance student academic experience.
- Contribute to college working groups focused on student success and international student experience.
- Collaborate with TLCI Educational Developers on curricular initiatives to enhance student experience.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Education, International Relations, Social Sciences, Counseling) and at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working with international students and supporting English as an additional language.
- International experience and proficiency in a second language are considered assets.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of EAL pedagogy.
- High emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to exercise judgment, discretion, and diplomacy.
- Proven ability to foster effective partnerships and communicate effectively.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Proficiency with technology, including Google Apps for Education and learning management platforms.
