About the Teaching and Learning Centre of InnovationThe Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation (TLCI) at Olds College of Agriculture and Technology serves students, faculty, and staff in various areas, including Accessibility Services, Learning Commons, Educational Development, Moodle and Google training, The Studio video production services, and the MakerSpace. Our vision is to lead continuous improvement of teaching and learning, creating exceptional learning experiences for all. We foster inclusive practices, cultivate partnerships, and inspire growth in teaching and learning.
The Opportunity: Learning Coach, Intercultural and English Language SpecialistThis permanent, full-time (1.0FTE) position reports to the Director, Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation. The Learning Coach, Intercultural and English Language Specialist will plan and deliver support for overall student academic experience and success at Olds College, focusing on the learning needs of international and English as an additional language learners (EAL). This role requires an outgoing individual with strong collaborative skills, who will liaise between multiple departments to enhance the academic experience of students.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, organize, and analyze information about learners to advise students towards academic achievements.
- Provide individual academic coaching tailored to specific student needs.
- Manage, coordinate, communicate, and assess student support strategies.
- Assist with writing and presentation skills.
- Design and facilitate college skills group sessions to support academic success based on data analysis and demand.
- Deliver relevant supplemental English language skills bridging.
- Develop close working relationships with leadership, faculty, staff, and the Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation team.
- Research and remain current with relevant scholarly information on student learning and success.
- Actively promote inclusive practices reflecting diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Contribute to college working groups specific to student success and international student experience.
- Collaborate with TLCI Educational Developers on curricular initiatives.
- Include remote and satellite campus students in support initiatives.
- Develop resources to support student academic success.
- A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline (Education, International Relations, Social Sciences, Counseling) and at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with international students and supporting English as an additional language.
- International experience and proficiency in a second language are considered assets.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of EAL pedagogy.
- High emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to exercise judgment, discretion, diplomacy, and maintain confidentiality.
- Proven ability to foster effective partnerships and group facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Proficiency with technology such as Google Apps for Education and learning management platforms.
- Current Criminal Reference check with no offenses.
