Providence Health Care, a leading provider of innovative addiction care, is seeking a dedicated Substance Use Support Worker to join its team. Located at 77 E Hastings Street, Crosstown Clinic is a pioneering facility that offers medical-grade heroin and hydromorphone in a supervised setting.

The estimated salary for this position is $45,000 - $55,000 per year, depending on experience. As a Substance Use Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting clients and staff within the clinic. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Observing, monitoring, and reporting on clients' behavioral and physical changes.
  • Undertaking security tasks to ensure safety.
  • Handling clerical duties such as scheduling, client registration, reception, database maintenance, and managing equipment and supplies.

This role is crucial in the supportive framework of Crosstown Clinic's innovative approach to addiction care. To be successful, you will need:

  • A Grade 12 diploma, completion of Community Support Worker, Addictions Counselling Skills or Mental Health Worker Certificate plus one (1) year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of certificates in C.P.R. and First Aid.

You will also possess:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
  • Knowledge of addiction/drug abuse and harm reduction.
  • Ability to handle and diffuse conflict.

Your duties will include performing reception duties, observing and documenting client changes, performing general word processing and data entry functions, participating in emergency situations, working with the clinic team to manage the environment, and providing support in the clinic/treatment rooms.

In addition to your skills and qualifications, you must be able to maintain inventories of clinic supplies and equipment, provide general information and literature to clients, order health promotion materials, and maintain filing systems.

You will also be required to assist with security functions, escort unwelcome visitors out of the building, report incidents to appropriate staff or authorities, and provide access to surveillance videos to authorities.

As a member of our team, you will attend quality improvement meetings, support the completion of quality improvement initiatives, and perform other related duties as assigned.
