About the Role

This is a critical position that will shape the future of our cybersecurity strategy at Nova Scotia Community College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee a team of approximately 6 employees who support identity and access management (IAM) systems.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
  • Cybersecurity Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy to safeguard the organization's digital assets, identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Access Management: Implement access control policies, ensuring only authorized personnel have access to sensitive data and systems.
  • Incident Response: Maintain a data incident response plan, including procedures for handling security incidents and breaches, and lead investigations when necessary.
  • Promote cybersecurity awareness and best practices among employees through training and communication.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant cybersecurity regulations and standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or NIST, and conduct regular compliance assessments.
  • Select and manage cybersecurity tools and software to protect against threats, including antivirus, intrusion detection, and encryption tools.
  • Email Communications: Oversee the efficient and secure management of an organization's email systems, maintaining email security measures to protect against spam, phishing, malware, and other email-based threats.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the cybersecurity and identity management budget, optimizing resource allocation.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with vendors and third-party service providers to procure and implement security solutions.
Requirements
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of recent and related occupational experience in cybersecurity, identity management, and/or infrastructure-related technical environments and/or solutions.
  • Experience in cybersecurity incident response management.
  • A strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices and frameworks, threat landscape, and emerging trends.
  • A strong understanding of identity and access management (IAM) best practices.
  • Proficiency with security tools and technologies as well as IT service management tools and systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, cybersecurity training and awareness platforms, monitoring, logging, and auditing tools, identity and access management frameworks and platforms/applications.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse, high-performing team.
  • Superior customer service skills that create a relationship of trust beyond immediate interaction.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent coordination skills specifically related to balancing project and operational initiatives with day-to-day operations activities.
  • Proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to data privacy and data governance.
