About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Nova Scotia Community College team as an Instructional Designer - Curriculum Development Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing instructional materials, activities, and evaluation tools for online and blended courses and programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-quality instructional materials, activities, and evaluation tools that meet the needs of learners and support the achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to ensure that instructional materials and activities are aligned with the college's curriculum and program requirements.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies, educational philosophies, and best practices in instructional design and delivery.
  • Provide training and support to faculty on the development and delivery of effective online courses.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A university undergraduate degree and a recognized Professional Certification/Designation in Instructional Design or equivalent combination of education credentials and certifications within the subject matter.
  • A minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent and relevant experience in the area of developing, designing, and supporting online courses and programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning techniques and assessment strategies and experience with educational technology.
  • Proficiency in learning new tools and technologies.
  • Awareness of Universal Design for Learning and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy as educational frameworks and experience incorporating these principles into course design.
  • Familiarity and comfort using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, Industry-standard software, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) on Mac and PC platforms.
  • Experience working with Brightspace (or other learning management systems) will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with eLearning authoring software packages such as Articulate Storyline and Camtasia will be considered an asset.
  • A background in Apprenticeship training will be considered an asset.
