About the Role

The Senior Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed estimates for commercial, institutional, and residential projects. This includes building effective relationships with clients, suppliers, and staff, as well as contributing to marketing the company and its services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, and contractors in the industry.
  • Prepare mechanical budgets based on preliminary sketches, specifications, and other related information.
  • Coordinate and prepare for pre-tender site tours, participate in project site visits as requested, and analyze possible cost savings for projects.
  • Set up data for estimates in computer programs, review and confirm estimate information prior to tender closing, and analyze disadvantages and strengths of estimates prior to submission.
  • Analyze tender documents and contractual obligations, prepare and deliver or fax quotation letters to clients prior to closing time with relevant management approvals, and obtain feedback and results from clients with regards to quotations.
  • Maintain and update databases for estimating, change order, and service in relevant computer programs, and maintain and update historical estimate databases.
  • Provide training and assistance for new and existing staff in estimating and change orders procedures, and provide leadership and positive motivation for project staff and company partners.

Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience as a Mechanical Estimator.
  • 10+ years' hands-on experience with Mechanical construction projects, with experience in Production or Field Operations considered an asset.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Estimator, with informal or formal leadership experience considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in estimating a full range of project delivery methods (Bid and Tender, IPD, Design build) of ICI construction projects up to $100+ million in Mechanical.
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or other equivalent construction program, or certification in one of the mechanical trades.
  • Eligible for or have attained PQS, CET, or P. Eng designation, or have obtained a mechanical trade designation.
  • Excellent engineering and technical knowledge of mechanical construction, as well as excellent knowledge of industry products, practices, and standards.
  • Experience with AUTO CAD software and Autobid estimating software considered an asset.
  • Current knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing, building, and municipal codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of engineering software and engineering skills considered an asset.
  • Ability to learn quickly, be flexible, and adaptable, with strong organizational abilities and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong time management skills, specifically the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Able to work independently and in a team.
