Labor Union Advocate

Civic Institute of Professional Personnel (CIPP) is a reputable organization with over 65 years of experience as the union for professionals working at the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Community Housing.
We are seeking a skilled Labor Organizer to join our collaborative team. Reporting to the Communication and Member Engagement Manager, you will be responsible for increasing and maintaining active membership across the union.
Your primary objective will be to enhance members' sense of ownership for their union, increase their understanding of the union's role, and encourage member engagement in strategies that build union power.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement effective member outreach, engagement, and mobilization activities for existing membership.
- Execute the CIPP mobilization model based on one-to-one conversations to expand CIPP's network of leaders.
- Support the development of participatory, member-driven strategies, plans, and tactics to build power for the next round of bargaining.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Member Engagement Manager to create communications materials that support union organizing goals.
- A university degree in social sciences, labour relations, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- One to two years of experience organizing in a labour, political, or community context or equivalent.
- Experience working in a labour union or member-driven organization.
- Familiarity with digital organizing tools and data management.
The estimated salary range for this position is $115,000 to $137,500 per annum, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package. This is a temporary full-time position, requiring 35 hours of work per week, with an 18-month contract.
