Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Labor Relations Professional to join our team at the Civic Institute of Professional Personnel. This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours/week) with an estimated salary of $80,000 - $100,000 per year.

The Civic Institute of Professional Personnel (CIPP) is a union that represents Ottawa's municipal public service professionals. We have been serving our community for over 65 years and are committed to advocating for the rights and interests of our members.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Labor Relations Professional to support our organizing efforts and help build a strong and active membership base. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing our organizing model, which emphasizes relationship-building and long-term member involvement in the union.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the CIPP organizing model to expand our network of leaders and engage existing membership
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote digital campaigns and mobilize members using digital organizing tools
  • Train and support groups of members to take on leadership roles and grow their own networks within a decentralized organizing model
  • Collaborate with the Communication and Member Engagement Manager to develop campaign materials, training materials, and organizing strategies
  • Maintain accurate records of member engagement, feedback, and participation to inform future network mobilization strategies and decision-making

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A university degree in social sciences, labor relations, or a related discipline
  • One to two years of experience organizing in a labor, political, or community context
  • Familiarity with digital organizing tools and data management
  • Experience in developing communications materials is an asset
  • Understanding of organizing, engagement, and mobilization techniques to engage union members
