Bantrel Co. is seeking a qualified Construction Safety Officer to join our construction team based in Toronto, ON.

About the Role

This full-time permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to work on the Ontario Line, Metrolinx project. As a champion of diversity and inclusion, you will be responsible for performing construction assurance and compliance activities and supporting project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction assurance and compliance activities on assigned projects
  • Support project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and implement them effectively for safe execution of works
  • Conduct formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with relevant OHS legislation, standards, and contract requirements
  • Provide day-to-day oversight for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance against relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements, support identification of hazards, and implementation of risk mitigation controls
  • Review site activities and provide support for protection of workers as well as public, infrastructure, and operations
  • Engage, coordinate, and work with Integrated Project Team and internal/external stakeholders to provide consistent and continuous support
  • In collaboration with Integrated Project team, review, analyze, and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe and efficient delivery
  • Participate and/or support others with incident investigations, including follow-up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions
  • Assist Safety Director and Safety team with other tasks as required
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • 5-7 years' experience in heavy civil/earthwork and/or railway construction safety
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA Act and Regulations with enhanced level of knowledge and experience in construction requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience in managing multitasks and multiple priorities within time frames
  • Ability to establish collaborative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • NCSO or other designation is preferred
  • Availability to work at site and/or project office in Toronto 5 days a week
