Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Distribution Systems Engineer to join our team at The MEARIE Group. As an Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in designing, preparing cost estimates, and work order packages for various electricity distribution system projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Prepare Cost Estimates: Develop detailed cost estimates and work order packages for electricity distribution system projects, including overhead, underground, and new service design.
  • Construction Site Inspection: Conduct site inspections to ensure work is done in accordance with our Construction Verification Program and O.Reg. 22/04.
  • Project Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor project progress and prepare reports to ensure timely completion and quality standards.
  • Technical Specifications: Prepare and provide technical specifications to utility personnel, customers, contractors, regulators, and consultants.
  • Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Connection Projects: Coordinate with customers, prepare documentation and contracts, and update utility personnel and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Asset Management: Assist with asset management programs to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of our distribution systems.
  • Construction Coordination: Coordinate and schedule construction of projects with Operations and contractors.
  • Annual Budgetary Estimates: Prepare annual budgetary estimates to ensure accurate financial planning.
Requirements:
  • Education: Graduate of a 2-year Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technician program. Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the engineering field. B.Eng. will be considered an asset.
  • Professional Association: Must be registered as a Certified Engineering Technician (C. Tech.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with O.A.C.E.T.T. (or be currently registered as an Associate Member).
  • Experience: Electrical distribution utility experience with load management of DER's/electric vehicles is considered an asset. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. Proficiency with SpidaCalc, GIS, and SCADA systems will be considered an asset.
  • Skills: Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines, be adaptive and innovative in their assignments and providing support to team members and customers, and have a strong commitment to safety.
  • Other: Must possess a valid Ontario Class G Driver's license with a good driving record.
