Role Overview:

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, this position focuses on automation, control systems, and electrical engineering at our Georgetown facility. The Automation Controls Lead will oversee programming on PLCs, operator interfaces, and instrumentation to execute various plant enhancement and optimization initiatives. The ideal candidate will leverage their leadership abilities to mentor their team and ensure that project development and execution remain within financial parameters. Their commitment to continuous improvement and customer-centric approaches will guarantee compliance with engineering projects related to automated systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, oversee, and support the plant in various enhancement and optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external process automation contractors to address, troubleshoot, and resolve all control-related challenges.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation, PLC systems for troubleshooting, and essential licenses for optimal plant operation.
  • Actively engage in the development and upkeep of installation standards.
  • Execute automation tasks (programming) and instrumentation for the various systems in development.
  • Work alongside the electrical engineering team to design and program system control logic and operator interfaces (HMI).
  • Partner with the maintenance department to ensure effective troubleshooting of PCs, procurement of equipment, and development of troubleshooting procedures, while providing coaching to minimize downtime.
  • Prepare budget estimates in close collaboration with other departments.
  • Establish controls and connections with the OT/IT department to implement specific plant or maintenance requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automated production engineering, or a related field.
  • Membership in good standing with the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers or an equivalent provincial body.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of automation, including familiarity with operator interfaces (HMI), PLC programming languages, Wonderware Archestra and InTouch, as well as PLC programming (Allen Bradley and Wago).
  • Strong understanding of Ethernet, DeviceNet, Modbus, Profinet, ASI, and other networking protocols.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and process optimization skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, autonomy, and excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
