ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

We are currently in search of a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Engineering Technician. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing, estimating costs, and preparing work order packages for various electricity distribution projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Design and prepare cost estimates, contracts, and work order packages for electricity distribution projects, including overhead and underground systems, as well as new and upgraded service designs.
  2. Conduct construction site inspections to ensure compliance with our Construction Verification Program.
  3. Maintain comprehensive field and office records for permanent documentation.
  4. Monitor project progress and generate reports.
  5. Contribute to the development of construction standards and material specifications.
  6. Provide technical specifications to various stakeholders, including utility personnel, customers, and contractors.
  7. Prepare documentation for Distributed Energy Resource (DER) connection projects, coordinating with customers and regulatory agencies as necessary.
  8. Assist in asset management initiatives.
  9. Coordinate project schedules with Operations and contractors.
  10. Prepare annual budget estimates.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Graduate of a 2-year Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technician program; candidates with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience will be prioritized. A B.Eng. degree is considered an asset.
  • Professional Certification: Must be registered as a Certified Engineering Technician (C. Tech.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with the appropriate professional association.
  • Experience: Previous experience in an electrical distribution utility, particularly with load management of DERs, is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD is required, while familiarity with SpidaCalc, GIS, and SCADA systems is a plus.
  • Skills: The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. A strong commitment to safety and innovation is essential.
  • Other: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
