ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

The MEARIE Group is a dedicated electric distribution organization serving a diverse range of clients across a broad service area. Our commitment to community and safety drives our operations, ensuring we provide reliable service to our customers.

We are currently looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Electrical Engineering Technician. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing, estimating costs, and preparing work order packages for various electricity distribution projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and prepare cost estimates, contracts, and work order packages for electricity distribution projects, including overhead and underground systems, as well as new and upgraded service designs;
  • Conduct construction site inspections to ensure compliance with our Construction Verification Program and maintain accurate field and office records;
  • Monitor project progress and prepare detailed reports;
  • Contribute to the development of construction standards and material specifications;
  • Provide technical specifications to various stakeholders, including utility personnel, customers, and contractors;
  • Manage Distributed Energy Resource (DER) connection projects, coordinating with customers and preparing necessary documentation;
  • Assist in asset management initiatives;
  • Coordinate project schedules with Operations and contractors;
  • Prepare annual budget estimates;
  • Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Completion of a 2-year Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technician program; preference for candidates with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is an asset;
  • Professional Certification: Must be registered as a Certified Engineering Technician (C. Tech.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with the appropriate professional association;
  • Experience: Previous experience in an electrical distribution utility, particularly with load management of DERs and electric vehicles, is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD is required, with additional skills in SpidaCalc, GIS, and SCADA systems considered beneficial;
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, ability to manage multiple projects, adaptability, and a commitment to safety are essential;
  • Other: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
