Job Title: Director, Sponsored Research Services

The University of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to lead its Sponsored Research Services team. As a key member of the Research Management Services department, you will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in the administration of research grants and contracts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on research administration policies and procedures to researchers, faculties, and administrators.
  • Lead the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with external sponsor requirements and university policies.
  • Oversee the pre-award and post-award management of research grants and contracts, including coordination of reviews, submission processes, and award negotiation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external funding sponsors, researchers, and administrators to promote research excellence and compliance.
  • Lead a team of staff in a complex and fast-paced environment to achieve unit objectives, including staff hiring, onboarding, performance evaluation, and succession planning.
Requirements:
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field or a combination of equivalent training and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively senior positions within a research-intensive university or similar complex research environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of university pre- and post-award administration processes, research contracts and agreements, and Canada's research funding landscape.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with researchers, administrators, faculties, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, tact, diplomacy, and judgment.
