About the Role

Cowan Insurance Group is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Business Development Representative to join our Commercial Lines Sales Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for identifying and pursuing sales opportunities, coordinating sales appointments, and working closely with our Commercial Lines & Group Benefits business leaders to create opportunities for our sales teams and acquire new clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the sales strategy of the Commercial Lines and Group Benefits business strategy, focusing on mid to large organizations.
  • Research and identify prospective clients with existing business relationships and connections, and plan strategies for next steps.
  • Work with current staff and centers of influence to identify opportunities with an arms-length connection, document, and plan strategies.
  • Collaborate with senior management on segment strategies to grow brand recognition and net new clients within our core industry sectors.
  • Identify new internal and external referral sources and centers-of-influence.
  • Coordinate with Commercial Account Executives and Group Benefits Consultants to schedule new client meetings.
  • Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs.
  • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients when appropriate.
  • Build long-term relationships both inside Cowan and in the community.
Requirements
  • Proven working experience as a Business Development Representative, Sales Executive, or similar role.
  • Knowledge of Insurance and/or Group Benefits is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in identifying and qualifying prospects.
  • Exceptional skills in determining, prospecting, and nurturing suitable target accounts and uncovering business opportunities using calling, email, and social media.
  • Successful in building consistent new pipeline.
  • Ability to build rapport.
  • Time management and planning skills.
  • Analytical skills to translate data into actionable information.
  • BSc/BA in business administration, sales, or relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience with ZoomInfo is an asset.
