Job Title: Urban Planning Technician - Construction Design and Supervision

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Urban Planning Technician to join our team at the City of Thunder Bay. As an Urban Planning Technician, you will be responsible for assisting in the development of engineering specifications and drawings, participating in field surveys, inspections, or technical investigations, and preparing construction specifications, costs, and material estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings
  • Participate in field surveys, inspections, or technical investigations
  • Prepare construction specifications, costs, and material estimates
  • Prepare engineering designs and drawings
  • Prepare project schedules
  • Supervise or conduct field surveys, inspections, technical investigations, and testing of construction materials
  • Prepare design concepts, sketches, or models for approval
  • Inspect construction of building and engineering construction
  • Prepare and track work orders
  • Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders
  • Prepare and interpret engineering design, drawings, and specifications
  • Prepare detailed specifications
  • Prepare design plans with sketches, models, photographs, and maps

Requirements:

  • Education: Other trades certificate or diploma
  • Experience: 5 years or more
  • Skills: Geographic Information System (GIS), AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, Architectural software programs

Work Environment: The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals. The work will involve working on construction sites, attending meetings, and working in an office setting.
