Job Title: Urban Planning Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Urban Planning Technician to join our team at the City of Thunder Bay. As an Urban Planning Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the development of our city's infrastructure and community.

Job Summary:

The Urban Planning Technician will assist in the preparation of engineering specifications, drawings, and project schedules. You will also participate in field surveys, inspections, and technical investigations, and prepare construction specifications, costs, and material estimates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings
  • Participate in field surveys, inspections, or technical investigations
  • Prepare construction specifications, costs, and material estimates
  • Prepare engineering designs and drawings
  • Prepare project schedules
  • Supervise or conduct field surveys, inspections, technical investigations, and testing of construction materials
  • Prepare design concepts, sketches, or models for approval
  • Inspect construction of building and engineering construction
  • Prepare and track work orders
  • Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders
  • Prepare and interpret engineering design, drawings, and specifications
  • Prepare detailed specifications
  • Prepare design plans with sketches, models, photographs, and maps
Requirements:
  • 5 years or more of experience in urban planning or a related field
  • Other trades certificate or diploma
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
