Job Title: Urban Planning Technician

We are seeking a skilled Urban Planning Technician to join our team at the City of Thunder Bay. As an Urban Planning Technician, you will be responsible for assisting in the development of engineering specifications and drawings, participating in field surveys, inspections, and technical investigations, and preparing construction specifications, costs, and material estimates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read blueprints to determine dimensions of structure or system and material requirements
  • Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings
  • Participate in field surveys, inspections, or technical investigations
  • Prepare construction specifications, costs, and material estimates
  • Prepare engineering designs and drawings
  • Prepare project schedules
  • Supervise or conduct field surveys, inspections, technical investigations, and testing of construction materials
  • Prepare design concepts, sketches, or models for approval
  • Inspect construction of building and engineering construction
  • Prepare and track work orders
  • Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders
  • Prepare and interpret engineering design, drawings, and specifications
  • Prepare detailed specifications
  • Prepare design plans with sketches, models, photographs, and maps
Requirements:
  • 5 years or more of experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Valid driver's license
