Job Title: Urban Planning Technician

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Urban Planning Technician to join our team at the City of Thunder Bay. As an Urban Planning Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the development of urban plans and policies that promote sustainable and livable communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of urban plans and policies that align with the City's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Conduct field surveys, inspections, and technical investigations to gather data and information for urban planning projects.
  • Prepare construction specifications, costs, and material estimates for urban planning projects.
  • Prepare engineering designs and drawings for urban planning projects.
  • Supervise or conduct field surveys, inspections, technical investigations, and testing of construction materials.
  • Prepare design concepts, sketches, or models for approval.
  • Inspect construction of buildings and engineering construction.
  • Prepare and track work orders.
  • Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders.
  • Prepare and interpret engineering design, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare detailed specifications.
  • Prepare design plans with sketches, models, photographs, and maps.

Requirements:

  • 5 years or more of experience in urban planning or a related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Geographic Information System (GIS), AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word.
