Job Summary:
The Corporation of The City of Victoria is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy City Clerk/Manager of Legislative Services to join our team. As a key member of our Legislative Services Department, you will be responsible for providing professional advice to Council, advisory committees, and senior managers on legislative and regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the provision of legislative secretariat programs, including preparing and managing annual operational budgets, reviewing administrative procedures, and implementing improvements.
- Supervise and manage five support staff, including setting staff objectives, providing work direction, and managing employee conduct, performance, and attendance.
- Provide professional advice on bylaw and statutory requirements, attend Council and committee meetings, and assist advisory committees with understanding terms of reference and procedures.
- Represent the Legislative and Regulatory Services Department to other organizations, government agencies, and the public, including clarifying legislation and responding to media and public information requests.
- Manage the delivery of legislative secretariat services to Council, including creating agendas, coordinating meetings, and ensuring accurate and complete recording and preserving of meeting minutes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration or Political Science.
- Provincial Board of Examiners Certification in Local Government Administration.
- 5-7 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in local government administration.
