About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Log and Prepare Patient Samples: Accurately log and prepare patient samples for testing, ensuring that all necessary information is recorded and samples are handled and stored properly.
  • Perform Blood Group and Type Tests: Conduct blood group and type tests for transfusion purposes, ensuring that all results are accurate and reliable.
  • Collect and Perform Laboratory Tests: Collect and perform various laboratory tests, including blood tests, urine tests, and other diagnostic tests.
Work Setting

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist at IWK Health, you will work in a fast-paced hospital medical laboratory environment. You will be responsible for working independently and as part of a team to ensure that all laboratory tests and procedures are completed accurately and efficiently.

Requirements
  • Education: A college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1-2 years.
  • Experience: Experience is an asset, but not required.
  • Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technician: Must have experience as a clinical/medical laboratory technician.
Area of Work Experience
  • Quality Assurance or Control: Experience in quality assurance or control is an asset.
Area of Specialization
  • Clinical Chemistry or Biochemistry: Must have experience in clinical chemistry or biochemistry.
  • Hematology: Must have experience in hematology.
  • Medical Chemistry: Must have experience in medical chemistry.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
  • Ability to Work Independently: Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Work Under Pressure: Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
