Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of members, including responding to emergencies and maintaining a safe pool environment.
  • Provide swim instruction to individuals of all ages, including children and adults.
  • Set up and take down equipment as required, and ensure that equipment is safe and in good working order.
  • Complete a safety check of lifesaving equipment prior to each shift.
  • Assist with cleaning duties related to the pool and equipment.
  • Ensure qualifications and certifications are current at all times.
  • Actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events.
  • Collaborate with program members, volunteers, and staff to provide a positive and inclusive experience for all.

Requirements:

  • Current certifications in National Lifeguard (NL) and Standard First Aid & CPR level C.
  • Current YMCA or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
  • Previous experience instructing swim lessons is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
