Job Summary

As a Residence Worker with Overnight Awake Scheduling, you will be responsible for providing support to individuals in a residential setting. Your duties will include participating in assessments and planning, implementing life skills training, and assisting with daily living activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in team assessments and planning for individuals in the program, documenting and implementing program evaluation.
  • Provide life skills training, including meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills, and personal finance, and implement personal service plans.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, such as hygiene, grooming, and toileting.
  • Participate in activities focused on the individual's care plans.
  • Recognize, analyze, and respond to potential emergency situations, such as aggressive behavior, according to the individual's behavior safety plan.
  • Administer medication according to established policy, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting difficulties.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to individuals and their families.
  • Transport and assist individuals to attend appointments, shopping, or leisure activities, operating vehicles safely and legally.
  • Perform residential maintenance and housekeeping duties, including laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment, and food services.
  • Maintain reports, such as statistics, logs, and daily activities, relating to the individual.
  • Utilize practices that promote the health, welfare, safety, and security of the individual.
Requirements
  • A diploma or degree in a related field, such as the humanities, social work, or a related field, or other combinations of education and experience.
  • A minimum of one year of recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience, in a community-based setting.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and clean driver's abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle and appropriate insurance.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates, or ability to obtain within the probation period.
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate, or ability to obtain within the probation period.
  • Physician's note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test.
  • Positive behavior supports experience.

WJS Canada adheres to provincial/legislated communicable disease prevention protocols. Some community health care providers/stakeholders may require WJS employees to be vaccinated to enter establishments while supporting WJS individuals/clients in service.
