Job Summary

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance to join their team. As a key member of the Department of Finance, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the financial management of the NWT Health and Social Services System.

The Director of Finance will provide strategic financial guidance and advice to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Finance, Policy, Planning, and Communications, and will be responsible for developing and implementing financial policies and procedures that support the achievement of the Department's goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, with experience in financial management, budgeting, and financial analysis. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures that support the achievement of the Department's goals and objectives.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and advice to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Finance, Policy, Planning, and Communications.
  • Lead the financial management of the NWT Health and Social Services System, including budgeting, financial analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in financial regulations and laws, and ensure that the Department's financial practices are compliant with all relevant requirements.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a university degree in a related field, such as finance, accounting, or business administration, and a recognized professional accounting designation, such as CGA, CMA, or CA. They will also have at least 5 years of experience in financial management, with a strong background in budgeting, financial analysis, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels. They will also have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and develop effective solutions.
