Safety and Support Services

The Cedarvale Supportive Housing Program provides housing for seniors who have been street-involved and may be experiencing mental health and/or addictions issues. The program offers onsite psychosocial, primary care supports and services, including intensive case management, harm reduction and addiction support, therapeutic and supportive counseling, 24-hour staffing, assistance with activities of daily living, nursing services, life skills development, social and recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and follow-up support.

Responsibilities

• Provide reception services to staff and residents living at St. Hilda's Tower.
• Ensure the safety of the building and its occupants after regular business hours.
• Monitor activities in the common areas and the outside perimeter of the building through security cameras/visual inspections and respond appropriately.
• Implement crisis response strategies, including de-escalation, support, debriefing, etc., when necessary.
• Complete hourly rounds on participant floors.
• Provide after-hours supportive counseling to residents when required.
• Redirect any visitors and respond to issues appropriately.
• Perform lock-up and alarm duties according to established procedures.
• Respond to the 24-hour resident personal alarm system according to appropriate procedures.
• Understand how to operate, troubleshoot, and contact the 24-hour response team for the emergency response system as necessary.
• Carry out appropriate First Aid responses when necessary.
• Work effectively with other team members, including onsite Personal Support Workers, to address resident and building issues.
• Complete a detailed participant activity log & shift exchange, reporting any incidents, occurrences, health and safety risks, status of resident community, resident interpersonal conflict.
• Understand risk management procedures and respond professionally and appropriately, including responding to all emergency situations, such as managing a resident emergency (e.g., illness, fire in the unit or building) or an emergency that affects building operations (e.g., elevator breakdown, power failure).

Requirements

• 2-year diploma in social services or certification in security.
• 3+ years of experience working with older adults and/or seniors with mental health, addictions issues, and street involvement.
