Game Development Manager for Ubuntu

In this exciting time for Linux gaming, we are seeking a skilled Game Development Manager for Ubuntu to help elevate the gaming experience on our platform. While compatibility tools like Proton have matured, a well-rounded gaming experience encompasses more than just compatibility. It requires maximising performance, robust and secure anti-cheat mechanisms, full device support, and ease of content creation, sharing, and discovery. By collaborating with open-source projects and other partners, you will contribute to not just Ubuntu but the wider Linux gaming ecosystem.
This role offers the opportunity to work remotely in the Americas or EMEA region, allowing for flexibility and a healthy work-life balance.
About the Role- Lead your team in optimising and expanding the Ubuntu gaming experience, focusing on the Steam Snap.
- Manage project timelines, balancing feature improvements with deadlines.
- Conduct thorough code reviews, focusing on quality, performance, and modern design principles.
- Collaborate with upstream projects like Proton and partners like Unity to enhance Ubuntu's gaming capabilities.
- Drive performance improvements across a wide range of hardware.
- Engage actively with the open source and gaming community to gather feedback and collaborate on improvements.
- You hold an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or have a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path.
- You possess proven ability to collaborate effectively with upstream projects and partners.
- You have familiarity and experience with the Linux graphics stack spanning user-space components to low-level kernel drivers.
- You demonstrate exceptional software project management skills, encompassing risk assessment and resource allocation.
- You have the ability to balance technical leadership with effective team management.
- You exhibit robust planning skills, demonstrated by your capacity to manage multi-cycle improvements.
We offer a competitive salary, estimated to be around $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience and location. In addition to base pay, we provide a performance-driven annual bonus or commission. We strive to balance our programs to meet local needs and ensure fairness globally.
