About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Systems Designer to join our dynamic team at Epic Games. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing game systems that delight, engage, and retain players.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and iterate on complex design systems that support the core gameplay and creative vision.
  • Work closely with Leads to develop and validate a thoughtful metagame experience.
  • Collaborate with Production and Leads to identify and prioritize work essential for creating these systems.
  • Take charge of driving the design and implementation of these systems to a high standard.
  • Generate documentation and use spreadsheets and flow charts to model game systems and account for how different types of players will interact with them.
  • Fine-tune the player experience through playtesting, iteration, game balancing, and rebalancing, and continuously look for ways to improve or expand on the game experience.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience shipping multiple AAA titles as a Game Designer.
  • 2+ years in a Lead Game Designer role, including experience managing or leading a team.
  • Excellent knowledge of development tools, game engines (preferably UE 4/5), and pipelines.
  • A solid understanding of game design principles including core experience, retention, player progression, player motivations, balance, and more.
  • Ability to take ownership and communicate initiatives to ensure they are completed on time and in line with the design vision.
