Job Summary

Shkaabe Makwa, Clinical Services is seeking a part-time, permanent Cultural Care Practitioner to provide traditional teachings, spiritual counselling, cultural supports, and healing ceremonies for clients, patients, and families.

The successful candidate will be a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis individual recognized as a Cultural Care Practitioner by the Indigenous community, with at least 7 years of experience providing cultural support to people with substance use and mental health concerns.

The Cultural Care Practitioner will work collaboratively with the interprofessional team, including Indigenous social workers, a Cultural Care Practitioner, an Advance Practice Clinical Leader, a psychiatrist, and student learners.

The position requires the ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds, cultural belief systems, and communities, including those who identify as Two-Spirit, 2SLGBTQ+, or along the 2SLGBTQ+ spectrum.

The successful candidate will support a harm reduction approach in the treatment of substance use and mental health concerns in a hospital environment.

The Cultural Care Practitioner may also be required to speak at public events within CAMH and externally to provide education on Indigenous issues and their role within Shkaabe Makwa, Clinical Services.

The position is located at 60 White Squirrel Way, but may include travel to other areas within Ontario.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide traditional teachings, spiritual counselling, cultural supports, and healing ceremonies for clients, patients, and families
  • Work collaboratively with the interprofessional team to provide comprehensive care
  • Support clients from diverse backgrounds, cultural belief systems, and communities

Requirements
