Strategic External Communications Manager

WSP Canada is seeking a highly skilled Manager, Global External Communications to join their team. This role will play a key part in shaping the company's external communications strategy and implementing initiatives to achieve visibility among stakeholders.

In this fast-paced role, you will work closely with the Global Director, Communications and Public Relations to develop and execute global external communication strategies and plans that align with WSP's brand, values, and business objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and supporting the implementation of global external communication strategies and plans that align with WSP's brand, values, and business objectives.
  • Leading the external component of major corporate communications projects and initiatives, including the Annual Report and ESG Report campaigns.
  • Managing the external communications calendar and overseeing the global website content (corporate section).
  • Establishing constructive and trusting relationships with stakeholders, including partnering with the ESG team to promote the company's sustainability story and performance.
  • Working closely with other global teams, including Internal Communications, Social Media, Brand Management and Marketing, and Digital Experience, to ensure consistent messaging and alignment.
  • Crafting compelling external communication materials, including press releases, articles, key messages, presentations, and multimedia content.
  • Supporting corporate financial communications, media relations, social media, events, and crisis management activities, as needed.
  • Supervising and managing a team of professionals and supporting their professional development.
  • Evaluating the performance and impact of external communications and current practices and processes and establishing mechanisms for their continual improvement.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in external communications to ensure the company's approach remains relevant and engaging.

Requirements include:

  • Proven communications professional with 10+ years of experience in Communications, including a minimum of three years spent managing a team.
  • Solid experience in the development of external communications programs.
  • Superior professional English language skills, written and spoken.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced role, proven ability to be hands-on and strategic, and perform in a constantly changing environment.
  • University degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and senior management, with a client-oriented, agile, and solution-focused approach.
  • Demonstrated copywriting and editing capabilities with a keen ability to synthesize complex business matters.
  • Motivated by teamwork, collaboration, and the achievement of concrete results.
  • High level of professionalism, rigour, and ethics in all activities and interactions.
