The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is a leading academic health sciences centre in Canada, dedicated to improving the lives of patients through clinical care, research, education, and system building.

Job Overview

This role is a strategic leadership opportunity to drive public affairs and communications efforts at CAMH, working closely with senior management and partners to advance mental health advocacy and patient care.

The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of progressive experience in communications/public affairs roles, with a strong track record in team development, stakeholder engagement, and crisis communication. They will possess an in-depth understanding of healthcare policy, public affairs, and advocacy strategies within the Canadian healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an integrated public affairs and communications strategy that drives media and employee communications, corporate publications, issue responses, digital communications, and special events in line with the CAMH brand.
  • Collaborate with leaders across CAMH to advise and manage internal communications, fostering effective relationships with stakeholders and executing sound judgment and decision-making, especially in managing sensitive issues related to mental health and healthcare.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the team in creating and executing various initiatives to inform, engage, and build pride in the organization, while adapting and strengthening communications processes and activities to meet changing priorities, emerging issues, and trends impacting Ontario's healthcare landscape.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in communications/public affairs roles, preferably in the healthcare sector.
  • An in-depth understanding of healthcare policy, public affairs, and advocacy strategies within the Canadian healthcare system.
  • Proven experience in managing public relations campaigns, crisis communication, and initiatives, as well as experience in government relations and stakeholder engagement.
  • A strong track record of building and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, medical representatives, and community partners.
  • Excellent leadership and team development skills, with the ability to execute sound judgment and decision-making, especially in managing sensitive issues related to mental health and healthcare.
Benefits and Compensation

CAMH offers a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, retirement savings, and professional development opportunities.
