At North York General Hospital, we are committed to excellence in patient care. As a Registered Orthopaedic Technologist, you will play a vital role in the care of orthopaedic patients in our Orthopaedic & Plastic Clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and/or assist with Orthopaedic & Plastics Centre activities under the direction of a physician.
  • Apply and remove casts, bandages, and splints, and assist with traction and casts in the Operating Room, on units, and in the Emergency Department.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of equipment and supplies used in the Orthopaedic & Plastics Centre.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are in safe working order and report any need for repair or replacement.
  • Record pertinent information on appropriate grounds.
  • Explain to patients and family the care and follow-up of orthopaedic appliances.
  • Participate in the explanation to staff, nursing students, and students of other disciplines of application and care of orthopaedic appliances.
  • Assist in the transport of patients as required.
  • Maintain procedural competence by attending in-service and physicians' rounds, and staying updated with current trends in orthopaedics.
  • Ensure economical use of supplies.
  • Refer to Hospital and nursing policy and procedures manuals for clarification if in doubt.
  • Observe the work area, equipment, and supplies for hazardous conditions and infection control.

Qualifications:

  • Orthopaedic Technologist Diploma/Certificate.
  • Member of Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists (CSOT).
  • Current BCLS.
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset.
